That’s the question that food writer Michael Bauer asks in this article. Apparently, one of his readers complained about the $15 burger at a restaurant he recently reviewed, Locavore (which I have not yet tried), and he opened up the debate in the aforementioned article.
I, personally, do not believe that $15 is too much to pay for a burger—but it better be a delicious one. The burger at Houstons, for example, costs $15 and comes with a choice of sides. The burger at R&D costs $12 sans sides. Bauer lists his five favorite burgers and all cost $12.50 or above.
Bauer brings up two excellent points. First, at restaurants where burgers might be more pricey, they are often the most affordable entrée on the menu. Secondly, you’re not just paying for the burger, per se, you’re paying for the ambience and overall dining experience (i.e., you’re not eating them at your local McDonalds y’all).
So, I pose the question to you. Is $15 for a hamburger too expensive?
